Texas Farmers Union announces the 105th State Convention January 26-27, 2007 at Holiday Inn Select North, 2645 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, Texas.
We will begin the Convention at 1 :00 p.m. Friday January 26, 2007 by tour the boarding buses to go to Point, Texas to National Monument of our founders. A welcome coffee and cookies will be served by Rains County Farmers Union. We will return to the hotel by 5:00 p.m.
Committee orientation will start at 5:30 p.m. The reception will start at 6:00. The National Anthem will be sung by Brittnee Lee winner of the 2006 "Rural American Idol." We will be inducting a new "Pioneer in Agriculture." Additional entertainment will follow including Loris Galloway III and Brittany Richardson.
President's Breakfast will kick off Saturday morning agenda at 7:00 a.m. During the morning different topics will be brought by various speakers and at 12:00 noon we will have the Legislative Luncheon.
A seminar on the New Farm Bill will be lead by Mr. Harwood Schaffer from the University of Tennessee's Agricultural Policy Analysis Center.
Policy Drafting will start at 3:00 p.m. Highest priority will be; 2007 Farm Bill, Disaster Assistance, implementation of Country of Origin Labeling, Dairy Policy, and restoring funding for the Conservation Security Program.
National Farmers Union President Tom Buis will speak at the Saturday evening banquet. There will be other entertainment at that time as well as the awards program.
We culminate the Convention with an Auction. Please begin to visit your local Farm Equipment, Co-ops or other businesses you do business with to acquire items to be brought to the Auction. The Businesses will have their name announced when their item is auctioned. All proceeds will go to the Farmers Union Charitable Fund.
