Waco, TX (January 20, 2014) – Texas Farmers Union announces the 112th State Convention January 31 – Feb 2, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina, 707 N. Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX. Opening session of the convention will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, January 31st. Following a brief business session with committee reports and nomination of officers, there will be an afternoon recess. Friday evening’s session will begin at 6 p.m. and include induction of a new pioneer in Agriculture followed by a reception.
Texas Farmers Union President Wes Sims reports, “We will have excellent speakers and interesting programs during the convention. One of the speakers is Roger Johnson, National Farmers Union President, who will speak at the banquet on Saturday night.”
Dr. Mary Hendrickson, Assistant Professor of Rural Sociology, Missouri University; Dr. Harwood Schaffer from University of Tennessee’s Agriculture Analysis Center; Steve Maikell, Texas Educator; and John Hanson, President of Nebraska Farmers Union will provide current information on important agriculture, rural and educational issues. Also Shane Floyd of Swift Hill Productions, media award winner, will give a brief presentation.
Invitations have also been extended to current legislators and legislative candidates.
The convention will culminate following the Saturday night banquet with a progressive auction with proceeds going to Farmers Union Charitable Fund. Come be with us in Corpus Christi.
