Texas Farmers Union’s 109th State Convention is coming up very soon. Convention will start 6:00 p.m. Friday January 28, 2011 at the Crown Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas.
We will have several interesting speakers and programs. Some of which will be the National Farmers Union Vice President of Government Relations who will be speaking at the legislative luncheon on Saturday.
We will be inducting a new Pioneer in Agriculture on Friday evening at 6:00. There will be entertainment by the 2010 “Rural American Idols” Billie Jo Russell, Tammie White and Emily Worley. Food will be in abundance.
We will have a number of speakers Saturday as follows: Gary Condra, Ag Law, Jere Locke, Program Director
Texas Drought Project, Donn Teske USDA Production Agriculture in Senegal, Africa, Julie Hodges Education
Coordinator for Ogallala Commons, Dr. Harwood Schaffer, University of Tennessee’s Agriculture Policy
Analysis Center, Steve Maikell, Texas Education will speak at the banquet, and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice
Johnson is invited to be the key note speaker.
Policy drafting will start at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon with emphasis on the Farm Bill, Texas Education and Health Care.
We will culminate the Convention with an Auction. Please begin to visit your local Farm Equipment, Coops or other businesses you do business with to acquire items to be brought to the Auction. The business will have their name announced when their items are auctioned. All proceeds will go the Farmers Union Charitable Fund.
