Texas Farmers Union Convention
TFU 103rd  Convention in 
Abilene, Texas

Waco (January 18, 2005) - On January 28-29 Texas Farmers Union (TFU) members and delegates will meet at the Ambassador Suites in Abilene, Texas for their 103 State convention. The convention theme this year is “Farmers Union- Still Working for You.”

“The CAFTA trade agreement, BSE ‘mad cow disease’, Canadian border opening, New Farm Bill, School financing, State taxes and other major issues will be discussed” said Wes Sims, TFU President.

The Convention is dedicated to John Oldham from the Shamrock Texas area, a lifelong TFU member and agriculture leader. Also, TFU will present their Excellence in Farm Broadcasting award posthumously to the family of Harry Holt, a long time farm broadcaster from Abilene, Texas.

Some of the featured speakers will be National Farmers Union President Dave Frederickson, Rev. Harwood Schaffer, Agriculture Policy Analysis Center, Larry Mitchell, Executive Director American Corn Growers, Leslie Ramsey, Texas Fair Trade Coalition, Gary Condra, Ag Law Specialist, Katrina Ziegler, Government Relations NFU, Dan Hunter, Southwest Peanut Growers Association and Wes Cowan, Director Senior Texas Employment Program.

The Friday evening reception will feature entertainment by the “Rural American Idol” singers Kristie Lynne Patterson, Billie Jo Ferguson, Ronnie Smith, Tim Turnbeaugh and the “Acousticatz Band.” The convention will conclude with a banquet on Saturday evening.
