Waco, TX (January 19, 2004) - On January 30-31 hundreds of Texas farm and ranch families will gather in Dallas, Texas for Texas Farmers Union’s (TFU) 102nd Annual Convention. The Convention theme this year is “A new century of commitment to family farm agriculture”.
“Emergency Agriculture disaster assistance, new trade agreements, country of origin labeling, BSE regulation implementation and competitive livestock markets, are some of the major issues that will be discussed at this convention,” said Wes Sims, President of T.F.U. “The Congress and the administration needs to take action quickly on these issues.”
The Convention is dedicated to Lloyd Zwahr, a past President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer of Fort Bend County and a lifelong agriculture leader from the Needville area. Also, there will be a presentation presented to the family of W.R. “Buck” and Anita Breeding at there induction into the TFU Pioneers in Agriculture.
“The Acousticatz” band will play for our entertainment at the Friday evening reception. Featured singer will be “Rural American Idol”, Alina Tatum from Sulphur Springs. Some of the featured speakers will be Tom Buis, Government Relations, National Farmers Union, Washington, D.C., Larry Mitchell, Executive Director American Corn Growers, Dan Hunter, Southwest Peanut Growers, Leslie Ramsey, Texas Fair Trade Coalition, Gary Condra, Ag Law Specialist and Dave Frederickson, National Farmers Union President. There will be a presentation by Brent Cason on the monument for Neut Grishom founder of Farmers Union. The Convention will culminate Saturday with a banquet featuring the Honorable Charlie Stenholm District 90 Congressman.
